I saw no evidence of a cause.

Random traffic flash mob. Rocked up, stopped their cars in the middle of the road for 2 hours then drove off.
You didn’t get the memo, it’s “Drive to Work like in Sydney Day”. Once a year, we all slow down, get how middle fingers ready and head out to experience traffic the way it is in a real big city. That way, for the other 364 days a year, we can appreciate just how minor our “peak hour” really is in Canberra.
Recumbent Cyclist. Every driver got the red mist, and they were too busy looking for the poor sod to run over.
Was Ramos-Horta driving in from the airport? Plenty of AFP on bikes around Barton this morning.
IQ of one Canberra driver (VIP) = 200+
Average IQ of 10 drivers = 120
Average IQ of 100 drivers = < 100
There need not be a cause
😀
You may have experienced a rather interesting traffic phenomenon.
When a road is saturated with traffic and at capacity, it only takes very minor changes in driver behaviour to cause a jam, like someone spilling their coffee and swerving into another lane. That causes the people behind to brake, and then the people behind them to brake, and you get one big cascading line of people braking and traffic building up behind like a compacting spring.
This sort of jam wont clear until the number of people reaching the back of the jam are less than the people leaving the front.
That’s why an accident can have been cleared hours ago but a traffic jam will still linger.
Well that’s my understanding anyway.
