Hi All,

I recently did the rounds of getting insurance sorted and found that flood cover was fairly standard. What isn’t covered though is ‘inundation’. This is where some people are going to get a nasty surprise. Listen to the news and you will notice that in some of the affected areas they use the word ‘inundated’ instead of flooded.

I can see a lot of Plasma’s and white Commodores being purchased in the months to come up there….
What’s with the obsession with Plasmas? I think you’ll find they’re the cheaper of the televisions these days.

and will die again in another 35 years when we have allowed them to rebuild in the same flood prone areas. How many times have we seen people interviewed on TV pointing to the roof of a nearby building stating “It reached there in ’74”
The ‘Queensland Spirit’ of knuckling down, banding together and vowing to rebuild because ‘we did it in 74′ and we’ll do it agin in 2011’ is costing people thier lives!
How about, no you won’t, this land is being reclaimed for parkland as it’s a flood plain, you’ll have to live somewhere else!
My sympathies extend only to those that had no warning, no history of flooding and no ability to forsee such a disaster, and of course to all the kids regardless of where they were because they can’t be expected to know any better.

What they also need are groceries, as my brother lives in Queensland, he got petrol, but there was no milk or bread.
The webpage lists several ways to donate. Please remember before commenting that people have died, including innocent children!

It’s almost always better to donate cash to disaster areas. This was written for overseas donations, but it’s still relevant.
Except when giving to Africa, the warlords need food more than money to feed their soldiers.

If you want to help, give money. Word has gone out that it is too early to give items – the logistics would be impossible – and people would prefer to buy what they want and need with some cash. Remember the bushfires at Kinglake…
I dont remember the specifics from Kinglake, but I do remember specifics from Katrina. Katrina emergency funding was spent on everything from Strip Clubs to Tattoos to Diamond rings.

Tricky. Generally you can’t get flood insurance IIRC.
Here you go JB;

I thought you could if you were not on an identified flood plain?
Apols if I am….yet again, wrong.
Wheres the emergency funding for all the hail storm victims of last week?
I think they have enough to tide them over with essentials until the insurance kicks in…..what’s that you say, they have no insurance due to being too tight, building on a flood plain?
oh well, that’ll learn em’!
You can donate to the Premier’s Flood Relief appeal online by either direct deposit or by credit card via a form. The site also shows a running total of donations.

i’ve heard they just want cash. they have been inundated with goods.
Just leave any donations in the carparks beside the charity bins in your local area.
Cash donations can be made via
‘Francois Dillinger
PO Box 6598

On a more serious note, google it.
And good on you.
Probably not a good idea to send rainjackets – or any old souvenir clothes from Wet n Wild
