A 38-year-old woman was arrested yesterday afternoon for assaulting a police officer when she sprayed the officer in the face with an unknown noxious gas with effects similar to those of capsicum spray (Sunday, February 13).
About 3.15pm police were called to Officer Crescent in Ainslie after a member of the public reported a female with a baseball bat acting in a menacing manner.
Police located the woman and were able to deescalate the situation and remove the baseball bat from her. As police were attempting to take the woman into custody she withdrew a can of what police believe to be capsicum spray concealed on her and sprayed a female Constable in the face.
The female officer was decontaminated and treated by ACT Ambulance Service at the scene.
The woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 24, charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, cause harm to a Commonwealth/public official, possess an offensive weapon and possess/use a prohibited weapon without authorisation.
