Police issued a traffic infringement notice to a speeding driver travelling 55km/h over the speed limit along Adelaide Ave, Deakin late last night (17 February).
ACT Policing Traffic Operations members were conducting speed checks along Adelaide Ave, and checked the speed of a Ford Typhoon utility. The utility was detected travelling at 135km/h in the 80km/h zone. The driver who has only held a full class licence for less than three weeks was issued an $1811.00 infringement notice and deducted six demerit points.
In another incident, a 25-year-old man will be summonsed to court to face a drink-driving charge.
Around 12:15am this morning (18 February) police observed a white Ford Falcon XR8 travelling at excessive speed along Sulwood Drive, Kambah. Police conducted a speed check and recorded the Ford Falcon travelling at 128km/h in the 80km/h zone. The male driver was spoken to by police and underwent a roadside screening test which provided a positive result.
The driver was conveyed to the Woden Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis and recorded a reading of 0.133 grams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.Traffic Operations Superintendent Mark Colbran said that the actions of these individuals are a great concern, and urges people not to drink and drive and speed.
“ACT Policing continuously warns people not to drink-drive and speed. That message does not seem to be registering with a small minority. Drink-driving is a community issue and until the community gets serious and remembers that it is a crime to drink-drive, ACT Policing will continue to apprehend and put intoxicated drivers before the court”.
The man had his licence immediately suspended and he will be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
