Still no reduction in speeding or drink driving

Bollocks. Show me anyone in Canberra who has been booked for going 1 or 2 kms over the speed limit – doesn’t happen. In the ACT there is a quite generous tolerance normally applied.

As has been said before, this works if theyre driving their own car, otherwise you just penalise the innocent.

To be fair, the only drivers the police have contact with, are the ones who speed. Its perfectly understandable why they make the assumption that everyone is a criminal, when the majority of people that they interact with are ‘criminals’.

Its like Im sure the RSPCA make similar statements about how the community needs to stop mis-treating animals, but simply because they spend all day helping a few mis-treated animals, it doesnt mean that the whole community is mis-treating them.

And what will happen with these people anyway, they’ll get given a fine (that they’ll probably choose not to pay, or setup a $10/week payment plan), maybe lose their licence for a few months, so the only outcome is that we now get one more unlicened driver on the road, who has lost 10 bucks petrol money.

How does anyone win in this situation, other than the guy who gets caught who gets a slap on the wrist?

I think there must be a direct relationship between people owning top of the range or high powered falcons, commodores or a motorcycle and the small size of the driver’s brain and penis.

Despite this frequent media releases, people are still getting caught at a rate of about 400/week. And as mentioned already, no one has accused EVERYONE of speeding; that’s a ridiculous comment.

If they weren’t accusing EVERYONE then why the hell are they constantly ranting and raving to the media where everyone (or at least the widest audience) have to hear them??!! They could instead accuse the ones who are actually doing it, by pulling them over and saying so and showing them the reading on the radar gun.

Also, I don’t like the way they talk down on everyone, lecturing us all like naughty little children, when they do these press statements. Save that for the TRUE idiots, the minority who really do pose a risk to the public.

There will always be the occasional idiot who speeds massively over the limit. These people are the ones we should be targeting for major penalties.

I think part of the Community Issue meaning is that these speeders/drinkdrivers are part of or Community. They have friends, family, work mates, neighbours etc who all KNOW these people are speeding/drinkdriving but don’t appear to be doing much to stop them or report them.
Obviously not YOUR issue if you do not know of anyone who does these things, but someone in the Community does know them.
