A 20-year-old Downer man will appear in ACT Magistrates Court this morning after he assaulted two police officers in the City early today (Tuesday, March 1).
Around 1.20am today, police patrolling in Civic stopped to question four people walking from Garema Place to Alinga St. One of the men was identified as in breach of his bail conditions and was placed under arrest.
The man, who admitted to having drunk half a bottle of spirit alcohol, then violently resisted arrest, lashing out at the two police officers. One officer suffered two broken teeth in the assault.
OC spray was required to be used by one of the officers on the alleged offender in order for him to be safely handcuffed, taken into custody, and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.
The alleged offender will be charged with resisting arrest, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, escaping from custody, threats to kill, and causing harm to a Commonwealth official.
