Does anyone else think that the cost of the tickets to Chris Isaaks etc were too pricey for an outdoor event in dodgy weather?
Like many Canberrans we were keen to participate but felt that the ticket prices were just a bridge too far.

Er, can you give me more info on that one please ?
He’s been and gone, was here last Tuesday – last two concerts (that I’m aware of) are in Perth and are sold out.

I thought about taking my slightly older parents to George Benson, and would have happily paid $95 per ticket, but not for an outdoor venue during a period of dodgy weather where it seemed there would be a reasonable chance of just enough rain to make it uncomfortable but not enough to cancel the event and get refund.
George Benson and Chris Isaak were amazing and exceptionally good value for $95.00
If you ain’t got the dough, listen to the radio then. Otherwise, $95 is actually quite reasonable.

I thought it reasonably priced. Considering the smallish crowd I’m guessing the Govt had to pay the artists an agreed fee.
I think a season pass, at a reduced rate, would be a good incentive for people.
Good idea.
All in all by the looks of the crowds and pictures streaming in the events were a success, It did its end goal and brought tourists to town, and let us locals get a warm fuzzing feeling that we can put on an event worth telling our far distant relatives about. To answer the OP you must not go to many concerts the price range is low , unless your a regular of the rooty hill RSL where you can find Marcia Hines for $35 + bf? thew price is fine.

I’ll have a crack and say they listen to music that has come out in the last 25 years
Chris Isaak and INXS were both in the most popular stages of their careers < 25 years ago.
Besides, we all know that music gets WORSE as time progresses! 😉

I would have gone, but I thought ticket prices were a bit steep for an outdoor venue.

Yes it was – I mean the acts were all somewhat lame so $95 was rather a lot and in the end the reason why we decided not to go to Chris Isaak (also the weather looked unappealling).
How can you say that the acts were lame. they were great Chris Isaks INXS lame !!!!! what do you listem to????

No… and it wasn’t at Stage 88. Though I would love to hear your suggestions as to how the promoter could adjust ticket prices depending on the weather!
For comparison, some major international acts just been or coming soon;
Ben Folds – $97
Eddie Vedder – $109
Good Charlotte – $89.90
James Blunt – $99.10
Weird Al – $99.90
So yeah, $95 is not unreasonable I would say.
There was a small seated area, as well as larger areas set aside for BYO seating. All you had to do was take your comfiest camping chair and get there at a reasonable hour to bags your spot.
Chris Isaak was bloody awesome, and I’m not even a fan! Just a really well rehearsed, fun and entertaining set the likes of which you rarely see these days. Sound was really good too.
Only downside was, as usual, Canberra crowds don’t know a great show when it smacks them in the face! Bloody prudes…

It was not at Stage 88 at all it was actually down at the edge of Lake Burley Griffen here as a matter of fact: http://goo.gl/maps/Pzzy.
Personally I went to the INXS concert last Saturday evening and the weather was fantastic (we cannot control the weather would have been very cold and wet this Saturday night though poor Frankie Valli fans would have been soaked)
I enjoyed the concert very much and did my homework re seating etc before purchasing tickets. There were seats there and you could have taken chairs as well but we bought a picnic rug with us.
You mean the $95 tickets? That’s not an outrageous price for an international act, but the outdoor location and apparent lack of seating didn’t really appeal to me. I’d imagine that the value equation would be different for some people, though.
