Although everyone has the right to like or dislike a work of art, to even suggest that this is not a work of art marks you as a rather introspective insensitive unappreciative dullard. Even those with little appreciation for the efforts of others have to marvel at the amazing execution of this work, I know for a fact that even with all the time in the world I could never accomplish something like this.

Have you even approached it close enough to appreciate it?

While I don’t object to this particular piece of art, I do object to paying for it without having any say in the matter. If the artists were any good they wouldn’t have to rely on government funding, and if the rich these days weren’t so lacking in public spirit the government wouldn’t have to fund art in public spaces.

What’s the four dimensional geometry joke?

The 4th dimensional joke has been simplified down to 3 dimensions for the dimensionally challenged (also due to planning regulations about using 4 dimensional space in Civic and the lack of access to 4d building material).

Imagine you lived in a 2d world, born as a dot and grow up into a circle. Time is the third dimesion along the twirly axis of the sculpture, your 2d universe is a plane orthogonal to this axis. This plane moves along the time axis (well maybe the whole of plane-time is in existence from the outset and it just appears to move to the various circular inhabitants). As a circle you encounter rocks along the way, hindering yor passage. Then at in your twilight years you diminsh again to a point and finally disappear.

Just add a dimension and “this is you life”. Would have been funnier if exhibited middle-aged bulge.

In terms of extra skater prevention, I can see a potentially really cool feature on that artwork.

Going left to right, ollie up the centre and on the stainless steel part for sparky grinds, pop off back onto the base of the artwork and drop off the other end.

What’s the four dimensional geometry joke? There don’t appear to be any of the distortions and/or intersections that I understand you get from projecting a four dimensional object in to three dimensional space.

I don’t know much about art but I know what I like, and I like this. It’ll be a bugger to clean graffiti off though.
