Funny I thought it looked like a cyclist (the enviroment) being taken out by a fourwheel drive (big industry) and ending up in a coffin…..pointy things just there for interest…..but then again I failed art in high school, and I dont get blue poles.

While I don’t object to this particular piece of art, I do object to paying for it without having any say in the matter
Waht do you suggest? A plebiscite for every piece of public art? What a top idea…
How about a plebiscite on public art funding?
Not too much to ask of our socialist overlords is it?

Meanwhile just down the road next to the shiny cone things outside Tongue n Groove
Walking past them the other day when the window washers were cleaning the building I wondered what they thought of a nice sharp thing being below them as they rappel down the building.

well, you do get to vote, so you could make it a priority to seek the assurance of the candidate of your choice to hold similar tastes to you when they authorise public art…
And I do vote, but finding candidates in the ACT whose views are in any way similar to mine is difficult. It’s more a matter of choosing the least bad candidate than of choosing the best.

planning regulations about using 4 dimensional space in Civic
Yes, owing to competing space requirements, all three-dimensional structures in Civic are now required to exist in this timeline for no more than 6 weeks, before blinking out of existence so other buildings and amenities can be brought in to their place on the temporal axis.

And we paid for this alleged “art”, how much exactly?
Philistine’s philistine. What a monotonous world you would choose to inhabit.
Although everyone has the right to like or dislike a work of art, to even suggest that this is not a work of art marks you as a rather introspective insensitive unappreciative dullard. Even those with little appreciation for the efforts of others have to marvel at the amazing execution of this work, I know for a fact that even with all the time in the world I could never accomplish something like this.
Have you even approached it close enough to appreciate it?

Meanwhile just down the road next to the shiny cone things outside Tongue n Groove, I see they’ve upgraded the standard blind person bump strip things to super duper shiny stainless steel ones in keeping with the shiny art pieces 5m away…Yet they only stretch a small portion of the crossing – pity the blind person inconsiderate enough to cross the lane way at the other bit.

I haven’t needed to take a p!ss in that area recently.

More money diverted from where it is really needed.
TimeCube is the only four dimensional joke you’ll ever need.
But there is a better photo and more blurbage from ArtsACT over here.
But I don’t mind this one, especially when compared to the Whirlygig Men.

While I don’t object to this particular piece of art, I do object to paying for it without having any say in the matter. If the artists were any good they wouldn’t have to rely on government funding, and if the rich these days weren’t so lacking in public spirit the government wouldn’t have to fund art in public spaces.
Gotta admit, it did remind me of a giant nard. Maybe the pic doesn’t do it justice.
What’s the four dimensional geometry joke?
The 4th dimensional joke has been simplified down to 3 dimensions for the dimensionally challenged (also due to planning regulations about using 4 dimensional space in Civic and the lack of access to 4d building material).
Imagine you lived in a 2d world, born as a dot and grow up into a circle. Time is the third dimesion along the twirly axis of the sculpture, your 2d universe is a plane orthogonal to this axis. This plane moves along the time axis (well maybe the whole of plane-time is in existence from the outset and it just appears to move to the various circular inhabitants). As a circle you encounter rocks along the way, hindering yor passage. Then at in your twilight years you diminsh again to a point and finally disappear.
Just add a dimension and “this is you life”. Would have been funnier if exhibited middle-aged bulge.
In terms of extra skater prevention, I can see a potentially really cool feature on that artwork.
Going left to right, ollie up the centre and on the stainless steel part for sparky grinds, pop off back onto the base of the artwork and drop off the other end.
I give it til the weekend.
Yes, what’s the 4D joke?
Were you thinking it looked like a Klein Bottle, or something?
It looks like excrement on a coffin. If that’s the artist’s idea of life, he’s one sad character.
I like it.
What’s the four dimensional geometry joke? There don’t appear to be any of the distortions and/or intersections that I understand you get from projecting a four dimensional object in to three dimensional space.
I don’t know much about art but I know what I like, and I like this. It’ll be a bugger to clean graffiti off though.

The fence was around it for a very long time, according to gossip to they could put more brutal anti-skate board defences in.
