The ACT Gubmint is happy to promote Scientology. One of their front organisations (anti-psychiatry) had a big display in Garema Place one time. I called the gubmint to draw their attention to the fact and they didn’t give a rat’s arse.

I too read the article as referring to Ngunnawal as in tribe. Which reflects my own racism I think.

To the commentator who referred to “Kooris” raping their children – my understanding is that “Koori” refers to more urban NSW Aborigines, and the child abuse highlighted in the Children are Sacred report was in remote communities in the Top End. So that’s probably an accidental slur.

In PB’s defence, I have previously asked this question because ACT policing used the same type of language in a story which specifically identified a person as being of Indigenous appearance.

My assumption when I read the article the first time was that the offender was of indigenous background. Not racist, it simply reflects how Ngunnawal (ethnic background, not suburb) people are addressed. I went to a function recently where a guest speaker was introduced as a Ngunnawal woman, and she referred to herself as a Ngunnawal woman. Nobody thought she was talking about the suburb she lived in. Perhaps the cops could consider using a term like “male Ngunnawal resident” or something similar to avoid confusion in future.

Yet PB was making what I think he thought was a “funny” based on a suburb name. With no description beyond age, sex and what we all know is the home suburb of the offender.

How do you know what shade of skin pigment was worn by the OP and how exactly does that relate? Seems like PB was just trying to be clever (and IMHO it didn’t really work for him) but what your closing remark was downright offensive.
