ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the rider and/or a green-coloured motorcycle which was involved in a pursuit with police in the Belconnen area last night (Thursday, December 15).
About 10.50pm last night, General Duties members from Belconnen were patrolling on Southern Cross Drive, Scullin. As they approached the intersection at Kingsford Smith Drive, they observed the green-coloured motorcycle run a red light.
Police attempted to perform a traffic stop on the motorcycle however the rider accelerated away. A pursuit commenced with police following the motorcycle along Starke Street, Holt, before turning back onto Southern Cross Drive. Police lost sight of the vehicle on Southern Cross Drive and the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, police again observed the same motorcycle on Kingsford Smith Drive, Latham. The pursuit recommenced through Florey before the motorcycle mounted a kerb and rode into parkland, where police were unable to gain access.
A number of witnesses told police that earlier in the evening, the motorcyclist had been seen driving in an erratic and dangerous manner in the city and Belconnen areas. Information suggests the motorcyclist lives in the Belconnen area, possibly Florey. Police were unable to identify the brand of bike nor its registration number.
