Great photo. It looks like the back of the head and the shoulders of a submerged giant, about to stand up. It’s quite frightening to see the power of the water in this way.

doh! you forget that all the other images you will find on the web, are taken by equally as dedicated photographers like Jawm – and I for one have seen nothing like his pics of scrivener.

No one just woke up one morning and found they lived the other side of the river against their will. If you live out there you kinda have to take that kinda thing as the cost of doing business. Same with all the other low level crossings between Cotter and Burrinjuck. Although I’d be a little more sympathetic if the bridge at the Cotter pumping station got totally washed away…

I didn’t comment on the equipment on/at the dam itself, that would clearly be an issue for ACTEW, was was noted.

I doubt it. Most people don’t think past point and shoot. It takes a bit of knowledge and a tripod to do effective long exposures like this.

Yes. But he wanted to TAKE a fancy photo of Scrivener. It’s one of the better ones I’ve seen. So now it’s on the web where no talent commenters can view it.

It’s not what’s downstream, it’s what at the end of the catchment. That wall is already 8m higher than the original Cotter Dam and ACTEW projections are that water will overtop it! Not flood through the diversion tunnel like last time, but actually wash over the top if rainfall is at the higher end of the predicted range.

If it’s heavy enough then barriers their putting in to keep the trucks and cranes on the top of the wall from being washed away may not work, and then you’ve got a few tons of truck going over.
