The same way it’s banned at shopping centres, and you have to walk through a cloud of smoke at every entrance.
The same way it’s banned on construction sites and you have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get from the building to the site sheds; and half the trades just smoke where they feel like anyway.
If we can’t pass a law against it or tax it out of existence, we should determine a test that identifies long term smokers and deny them any smoking related healthcare.

Call me conservative, but I really wish DEEWR would ban it just like DoHA did.
Or….like UC has done – create designated smoking areas away from the building out of sight and off public walkways
Be interesting to see how many idiots continue to put rubbish in there now that the bin has completely melted into a blob of green goop
God who even smokes anymore anyway.
Hello, the 90’s called, they want their tryhard substance addiction back.
just take the bins away and issue those little pocket butt bins. Then the person with burnt pants is the culprit.

But I thought you had to be superb, unique and incredibly gifted to get a job at DFAT, with an IQ no less than 140? At least, that’s what they let their graduates believe.
Isn’t that what most APS grads believe? 😉
Grads anywhere…
Go have a look at some large accounting firm grads if you want a real giggle…

Oh yes, that is working so very well. NOT! They just retire behind the bushes, there’s LOTS of bushes, and puff away. Or head over the road to the coffee shops and smoke and have coffee and natter for ages. No one’s enforcing it. It’ll take the Secretary heading down there and laying about her with her umbrella to change things.
Theres at least one video online where someone gets the shits with a smoker and let’s loose a fire extinguisher on them. Sounds like some deewr employees could do with this treatment

I had to go by the DFAT building last night, and as i was waiting in the carpark for someone i seen a fully grown worker for DFAT throw his lit ciggarette in the full bin. People in general are so painfully stupid, it’s not just idiot kids.

It’s at least the 5th time that bin has gone up in smoke from a cigarette butt since DEEWR moved into that building..
Totally. I recall a few incidents where the bin has been smoking. I saw it smoking today, before lunch and I guess the wind just made it take off. By the time I returned to the building it looked clearly charred and crispy. The smokers outside the building are disgusting. They make their way down there multiple times a day, leave their butts all over the ground, blow that crap in everyone’s passage and then get back in the lifts which they also stink out. Call me conservative, but I really wish DEEWR would ban it just like DoHA did.

Maybe the reason smokers do not use these bins because they are full of rubbish, with this the likely outcome? An ashtray might be more helpful
Not likely, when I was at DEWR/DEEWR, the cylindrical ashtrays nailed to the concrete columns outside 10 and 12 Mort St were frequently spewing smoke or catching ablaze. The security guard at 10 Mort had a full watering can under the desk permanently just so he could put out the fires every day.
It seems the solution to that problem was to remove the ashtrays entirely. Mort St is now covered in cigarette butts.

They should have the bins with sand in the bottom so they can’t get stolen and when it’s due for clean, rake and re-sand.
Or half fill a bucket wit water…
OH &S…if they can’t butt it out imagine putting a bucket of water on front of people
So that’s why smoking is dangerous. You might drown?

It was partly because they were not emptied frequently enough, and partly because people dumped their still alight butts in there without bothering to stub them out. Mind you those fires were never this spectacular and didn’t require the fire brigade.

It was a spectacular blaze with 3 fire extinguishers tried and failed…final resort water (funny that)

With any luck Peter Garret was actually mixing with his workers looking down from the executive thinking to himself:
How did I end up working in learning
How do I work while that bin is burning?
Did you light the bin just so you could use that line?

I think they are lunchtime joggers, not feral juveniles. Besides, the latter wouldn’t use the bin.
