ACT Policing are appealing for witnesses to property damage at Hume late last night (Saturday, 7 April).
About 11pm police attended Tralee Street, Hume and saw a trail of damage about 800 metres long of knocked down light poles, bollards, street signs, construction fencing and barriers starting from a construction site.
The street lighting in the area and down the southern side of the Monaro Highway was not operating for some time as a result of the damage.
ACT Fire and Rescue and ACTEWAGL attended the location rendering the light poles safe and commenced the removal of debris from the roadway.
The trail of damage continued off the road where 40 metres of fencing around the National Library warehouse site was destroyed and police saw a large front load excavator, bogged nearby the entrance to an underground water drain.
Damage to the street is estimated to exceed $50,000.
