A drunk driver apparently had two bottles of wine before he was in a crash with another car on the weekend.

Police were on patrol when they came across a collision between a Toyota Hilux and a Suzuki Jimny on Anthony Rolfe Avenue in Gungahlin on Friday night (4 April).

Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the collision, but police suspected the driver of the Toyota, a 48-year-old man, was under the influence of alcohol, an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

He underwent a roadside alcohol screening test, which indicated a positive result for alcohol.

The man was taken to Gungahlin Police Station, where he allegedly recorded a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.387 – which is seven times the legal alcohol limit.

He allegedly told police he drank two bottles of wine before driving from Jerrabomberra to Gungahlin.

He was immediately suspended from driving for 90 days and will be summonsed to face charges of drink driving in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
