Some things are quintessentially ‘Canberra’, such as our iconic bus shelters, which were designed by Clem Cummings in the 1970s. What a lot of people don’t know is that Clem did a lot more to put his stamp on the capital, like 28 Pindari Crescent in O’Malley, another of his enduring designs.

This six-bedroom, four-bathroom property is a stunning example of modernist architecture in one of the capital’s most desirable suburbs.

“The design is very special. Everywhere you look, there is clever use of light and space, and the building materials are light and natural. There’s a lot of gleaming timber and exposed brick,” home.by holly agent Sally Strang says.

“It’s a real treat to be able to look at a home designed by someone who made such a contribution to Canberra’s unique aesthetic feel.”

The home’s living spaces, especially, have a sense of scale and organic beauty, with high-angled timber ceilings, a soft colour palette, terracotta roof tiles, and large sliding doors that bring to the forefront the home’s greatest asset: its amazing outdoor space.

An open living and dining space is served by a large kitchen that opens out to the alfresco area, while skylights provide abundant natural warmth and light to the communal spaces.

As expected, a home like this affords its residents significant living space, taking advantage of the 1796 sqm block size.

“The master bedroom is spectacular, like the rest of the home. It has high ceilings as well as an ensuite with a bath. But the real selling point is the fact that it opens out into the outdoor space through large sliding doors, creating a connection between the indoor and outdoor areas,” Sally says.

At the opposite end of the home, the property effectively has a children’s wing, with three bedrooms, a bathroom and a living space.

Above the double garage, adding significantly to the home’s flexibility, is a multipurpose room with a balcony and views over the pool.

“The multipurpose room is very special, it works as an office, but with its kitchenette and ensuite, it could also accommodate older guests or teenagers,” Sally says.

This home’s outdoor space is truly a one-off, with its manicured hedges, lush greenery and trimmed grass, all leading down to the enormous pool.

“The pool is very special. The entire garden space was designed around the pool and all indoor spaces point towards the pool where possible. It’s large enough to be the showpiece of the whole house,” Sally says.

“It was designed to complement the home; it absolutely shines in summer, but the pool is also heated, making it a year-round asset.”

Located in the exclusive suburb of O’Malley, this property is set back from the street on a private block on a leafy street.

“The suburb has an interesting mix of architecturally designed homes and embassies, and the home looks up to the surrounding hills of the Mugga Mugga Nature Reserve,” Sally says.

While the home and suburb itself are peaceful and quiet, amenities and entertainment are never far away.

“There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby at the Woden precinct and Civic is just 15 minutes away,” Sally says.

A home that truly excels, this property is a piece of history and a beautiful house in its own right, boasting an amazing outdoor space and more than 400 sqm of living space, all set in one of Canberra’s most prestigious suburbs.
