Cat of the Week: Bilbo

Bilbo is a great cat and a lovely pet. He presents us with a great opportunity to explain what seemingly shy or nervous stray cats experience when they arrive at our animal shelter.

At first, this guy was extremely shy and a bit hissy. (Don’t judge him by his cranky-pants photo.) We put him, like so many others, in our “leave to settle” area where it is quiet, warm and calm. But he was still nervous.

But after about 10 days of being cared for, fed and entertained and, most importantly, having nothing bad happen, he, almost with a click of the fingers, accepted humans again.

Now he’s friendly, and we suspect this is how he was in his former life. He’s still slightly shy at first, but Bilbo is a ready-made pet waiting for you to adopt him.

Tallulah

Wabbit of the Week: Tallulah

Little Tallulah is another great pet who has surely had experience living with people in the past. She, however, arrived as a stray animal, lost and cold in the ACT winter.

She’s friendly and great company. In fact, she has a cute habit of rearranging her furniture. Give her a litter box, bedding and activities like tunnels, and she’ll love them, but only after she’s put them in the right spot!

Like many animals that arrive at our shelter as strays, she was without a microchip, which not only denies us information about where she’s from but also her age.

An educated guess is that Tallulah is a senior girl, showing calmness and composure. For good company and a great pet who can live in a smaller home or an apartment, Tallulah is the girl for you.

Pawnote: Last week’s cat of the week, Lillibet, was adopted! Unfortunately, Kelsey, the staffy, is still here waiting to find a home. Thank you to everyone who supports animal welfare and RSPCA ACT.
