Well, if you haven’t found USA Foods yet, http://www.usafoods.com.au/ you should get onto it! Very good range. They even have my favourite mexican sauce, Valentina. Sadly not the Extra Hot, but four 1-litre bottles is tiding me over until my next US trip.

The shop itself is just a concrete-floored small outlet in an industrial area, but all the taxi drivers know exactly where it is, many make the pilgrimage out ot Moorabin. But for lightweight things, mail order’s the go.

Plain grits, I’d agree with you, but have you ever had cheese grits? OMFG, they are awesome. And now I’m totally craving them and still don’t know where to get any here, bah!

Thanks for the tip on the place in Manuka though. I’m an American ex-pat and always on the look out for where to get food from home! There’s a shop in the Fyshwick markets that has some American imports as well–no idea of the name, it’s one of the Asian groceries and the American foods are right in the front window.

You do see rather a lot of blokes in cheffy duds plundering the fish and meat displays, especiallly late in the week. Sometimes trolleys wiht all sorts of goodies in them.

Reminds me of a mate who went to the US and saw grits on the menu. When he asked the waitress was grits was the reply was “Whah grits is grits!”

Grits are bloody horrible, cannot fathom why anyone would want to ingest them. The deli outside Coles at Manuka has a very diverse range of foreign foods, including a lot of Mexican staples and some US stuff. Failing that, USA Foods in Moorabin. I visit it when in Melbourne although learned the hard way that it’s a very long walk from the train station. They do mail order and for light stuff like grits, that’d be a good option.

There’s a dark side to eating meat? Is that like, when, you totally burn one side of your chop, but not the other?

The texture and taste of oysters call me far more than fatty piggy bits, doc. And prawns, too.
