Woman dies, infant hospitalised after car crashes into tree near Gundagai

A woman has died and an infant has been hospitalised following a crash in the Riverina on Tuesday (2 December).

Just after 9:30 am emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, Gundagai, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and found a white SUV had veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver – a woman believed to be aged in her 30s – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however she died at the scene.

An infant, who was the sole passenger of the SUV, was also treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
