Will be interesting to see the effect that the conversion of the Fairfax broadsheets (including the CT) to tabloid format in just over two weeks has on the circulation figures. The CT has been making changes to their headline fonts to smooth the way. The Sunday edition (already a tabloid) has been running thick, upper case Murdoch-style banner headlines on the front page for a few weeks, and there are indications that the weekday edition will use a combination of Times Roman and Verdana headline fonts.
Could have been worse considering both the Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age declined 14.5%!
The thing is Canberra’s population growth rate is around 1.5%, so it is more like a decline of 9% in real terms. At this rate the circulation will halve within 7 years.
SMH & Age will halve their circulation in less than 4 years!
IIRC they were losing 20% a year a couple of years ago.
So they’re stemming the losses!
