Following on from their multi day promotion of criminals the Canberra Times is apologising for a bit of the collateral damage.
Thanks to Tommy for the grab.

Will the CT be refunding monies to all those who got scammed?
If you fell for that ad, frankly you deserve to pay the idiot tax.

I don’t even care if it’s fictional. Thank you for sharing it.
Whilst some of the email replies had some, as Dave puts it, ‘artistic licence’, the whole experience and the actual advertisement was real. I believe the store closed down sometime last year.
But as you say, who cares if it was, he definitely has a delightful way with words!

Reminds me a bit of this
I am actually crying it is so funny. I haven’t even finished yet. Wish me luck – it may be too much for my heart.

I love that they apologise for inconvenience. That works for everything!
It’s probably all the lawyers will let them use. Apologising for potentially being an unwitting accessory to fraud would likely not end well.
I love that they apologise for inconvenience. That works for everything! Smack someone in the face? Sorry for the inconvenience! Forget to lock the door and things get stolen? Sorry for the inconvenience! Burn down the veggie patch? Sorry for the inconvenience!
And I bet if you hadn’t highlighted the scam here on RA the CT wouldn’t have bothered with an apology at all.
