AFP Bingle on Morshead Drive

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating a collision involving an AFP member.

The collision occurred around 12.50pm today (Tuesday, December 21) on Morshead Drive, Pialligo where an AFP vehicle has been involved in a collision with another vehicle.

The male officer has been taken to The Canberra Hospital. The full extent of his injuries are not known at this stage. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

It is expected that Morshead Drive will be closed for a number of hours while the investigation is being conducted.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and are yet to speak with police are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Reports say the Zafira was turning right from Morshead, cant see any legal right turn opportunities there so is it safe to say it was trying to make an illegal turn.

Seeing as the crash involved an AFP protective services vehicle, not an ACT Policing vehicle, why all the vitriol at the police? (Not that there should be any against the protective services either…)

Most police patrols are two up, genius, so the offsider operates the radio and answers calls. I can’t believe that needs to be explained to you. But yes, they also have magical training at police college, where the driver holds the radio in one hand, the phone in the other, while driving with his knees and balancing a donut on his head.

In a rear-ender, the driver in the back is always responsible.

Normally this is the case Deref but I was talking to a bloke last week about this. His son was travelling to Portland in VIC & was slowing down to pull over on the highway to look at something & was smacked up the back by an International truck.

Copper booked him for failing to indicate (not sure of the exact circumstance) & the truckie got nothing.

It was always my understanding that you always had to avoid the vehicle in front, if not then its your fault. Not in Portland it seems……

Yeah, funny about that – being illegal and all. Is that the source of your hatred towards the police? You copped a fine for talking on your mobile?

Having helped out at a few major crash scenes, I can tell you that there is a set amount of activities that need to happen – some can run concurrently, but most must be consecutive. As such there will be times that some police will be standing around, waiting for the chance to start their task.

As for PR, who cares. Noone likes cops anyway, and they would be liked even less if they have a driver get let off in courts if they mucked up procedures at a crash scene (it’s hard enough getting a court to punish someone in this territory without police errors).

Until you read the facts and see that he was indeed there, and provided his own independant account, but it was anti-police so it must be totally made up. wait, what?

vg – Bullshit. For starters how do you move into a parking spot from neutral…..mind power?

Generally, if youre reverse parallel parking, you change from a forward gear to neutral to stop, before looking behind you and selecting reverse. How do you reverse parallel park, without going through neutral? Do you just look in your rear view mirror while driving slowly forward, then whack it into reverse and quickly chirp the wheels to reverse back?

DJ – PR… huh? Get over it – would you prefer they saluted you as you passed?

Id prefer they took their hands out of their pockets and GBTW. Standing around with your hands in your pocket should be reserved for construction crews and roadworkers, not police responding to an accident during peakhour on a major arterial road. I guess we have different expectations of police though.
