Weapon-wielding burglars allegedly tried to break into an optometrist store in Westfield Belconnen earlier this week.

Police are now calling for the public’s help to identify the pair.

The two men entered a service corridor in the mall and caused significant damage to a door when trying to get inside Bailey Nelson Optometrist at around 7:20 am on Tuesday (27 May), an ACT Policing spokesperson alleged.

They were confronted by a cleaner, who fled when they allegedly ran towards him while carrying weapons.

The men escaped from the mall by allegedly driving a car through a boom gate onto Swanson Street.

Police said their car was a blue Mazda 3 with stolen ACT registration plates YCO12K.
