Best of Canberra Taste Off - Pancakes

Last week I was lucky enough to indulge in two great big stacks of fluffy pancakes. I wasn’t able to find that salted caramel, banana and walnut stack that I was drooling over when I called for nominations last Monday, but I did find something close.

My first stop was Pancake Parlour at 7am on a Friday morning. Lucky I had enticed a friend into meeting me because we were the only two patrons in the parlour… What?! People don’t line up for pancakes before work at 7am?!

There was a lot to choose from, I couldn’t decide between the Alice in Wonderland stack, smothered in chocolate fudge sauce, ice cream and sprinkles, or the “IT” stack of buttered walnuts, vanilla ice cream and a dusting of cinnamon. You can probably already guess … we got both!

I can confirm that my eyes are bigger than my stomach. We weren’t even half way through our stacks when I called it quits. They were very sweet and both huge servings. The pancakes were fluffy and the toppings were plenty but … I … Just … Couldn’t … Go … on.

I found myself venturing out to the very busy, Common Grounds at Gowrie on Saturday. How has nobody ever told me about this place? It’s very Melbournesque, with a big black and white graffiti feature wall; the perfect place to meet friends for brunch. I just have to say, my coffee was perfect and the pancakes were humungous and so tasty (the photo just doesn’t do them justice). I was presented with two massive pancakes, topped with maple syrup, fresh cream, strawberries and two big scoops of vanilla ice cream! They were the perfect pancakes.

Without sounding terribly negative, there just wasn’t anything that I really loved about the Pancake Parlour experience. Common Grounds is hands down the place to get your pancake fix!

You missed out by not going to Ricardos at Jamo Shops.

Thanks for the review.

As for Common Grounds, you should read The RiotACT. 😉
