A 35-year-old man will face court today (26 December) charged with driving and weapons offences after evading an RBT and failing to stop for police on Christmas Day.
About 9:55 am on 25 December 2024, police were conducting Random Breath Testing on Commonwealth Avenue in the city when a motorcycle rider approached the testing station.
The rider was directed to stop by police. After initially complying, he then allegedly proceeded to take off at speed and crossed to the wrong side of the road.
The motorcycle continued along Commonwealth Ave and was seen weaving in and out of traffic, estimated to be travelling at about 120km/h in a 70km/h zone.
A short time later, police found the rider approaching the up-ramp to Parliament House. He was again allegedly seen crossing to the wrong side of the road on Capital Circle, Parkes.
About 10:05 am, police located the stationary motorcycle in the gardens of Parliament House, with the man being found a short time later on Hobart Avenue, Forrest.
The man was searched by police, and they allegedly located two firearms – one of which was loaded with ammunition – as well as a knife and drugs.

He was subsequently subjected to a roadside alcohol and drug screening test, where he allegedly returned a positive result for the presence of drugs. He was taken to City Police Station where he undertook further drug testing , which will be subjected to laboratory analysis.
The 35-year-old man – who was a disqualified driver at the time of the incident – was charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police, exceeding the speed limit, driving with a prescribed drug in his oral fluid, numberplate issued for another vehicle, possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, and failing to keep left on a two way road.
