Bimberi pulsar barbecue

A 19-year-old Wanniassa man and a 17-year-old South Canberra youth will face court today, both charged with arson.

About 6.50pm last night (Monday, November 28), police responded to a report of a silver Nissan Pulsar on fire adjacent to the Bimberi Youth Detention Centre in Mitchell.

Five teens were seen in the car, driving erratically, prior to it being set alight. The males ran off towards the Canberra Racecourse where police later located and arrested them. The car had been stolen earlier in the day during a burglary on a home in Wanniassa.

Three of the juvenile youths were released into the custody of their parents and will be summonsed to appear at a later date.

The 19-year-old will face the ACT Magistrates Court and the 17-year-old South Canberra youth will face the ACT Childrens Court this morning, charged with the arson of the car.

Investigations are continuing with further charges to be possibly laid.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in Wanniassa or Bruce between 9am and 4pm or observed a silver Nissan Pulsar bearing ACT registration being driven erratically to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. It could be true, however it’s no excuse. There’s always a way out of prison or youth detention etc. We here in Australia are very lucky to have what we have. Free medical, all the drug supports, etc. Spoiled pretty much.

There’s enough support out there, do they think about how they have affected the other peoples lives when they are robbing/invading the privacy of innocent victims property while they are taking pretty much all of what they have worked for? “Worked” for. Imagine having a child and you have these thugs stealing from their bedroom and you have to explain this to your child.

When talking to some of these young people, Bimberi is the only place they have ever felt safe.. are guaranteed food every day and aren’t abused by their so called parents… It’s sad we can’t recreate a sense of safety through other means..

A burnt out car (looks to be an EA Falcon) appeared late Saturday/early Sunday at Lookout Hill near Tharwa, I wonder if these crims had anything to do with it?

Interesting choice of location to dump and torch. Long way to hoof it in your getaway, and near the youth detention centre almost guarantees people watching and good police response.
