A 19-year-old Wanniassa man and a 17-year-old South Canberra youth will face court today, both charged with arson.
About 6.50pm last night (Monday, November 28), police responded to a report of a silver Nissan Pulsar on fire adjacent to the Bimberi Youth Detention Centre in Mitchell.
Five teens were seen in the car, driving erratically, prior to it being set alight. The males ran off towards the Canberra Racecourse where police later located and arrested them. The car had been stolen earlier in the day during a burglary on a home in Wanniassa.
Three of the juvenile youths were released into the custody of their parents and will be summonsed to appear at a later date.
The 19-year-old will face the ACT Magistrates Court and the 17-year-old South Canberra youth will face the ACT Childrens Court this morning, charged with the arson of the car.
Investigations are continuing with further charges to be possibly laid.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in Wanniassa or Bruce between 9am and 4pm or observed a silver Nissan Pulsar bearing ACT registration being driven erratically to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
