Further update: The full police statement is now out:
ACT Policing responded to a number of suspicious packages at the ACT Legislative Assembly in Civic today (Monday, July 8).
ACT Policing received the report of the suspicious packages containing a white powder, around 11.10am.
ACT Policing General Duties members attended and cordoned the area, along with the ACT Fire and Rescue HAZMAT team.
Staff members within the ACT Legislative Assembly were asked to remain inside their building as a precautionary measure.
Members of ACT Fire and Rescue entered the Assembly and took a sample of the material inside the packages for analysis. Results confirmed the material as safe and the ACT Legislative Assembly was opened about 2.30pm.
ACT Policing thanks the community for their patience during this time.
