A woman was running along a walking trail in the north Canberra bush when she was allegedly grabbed from behind, assaulted and choked unconscious by a 15-year-old boy.
The 59-year-old had been running down Oak Hill on the Centenary Trail in Bonner, near the ACT’s border with NSW, at about 10:15 am on Monday (26 May), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
She was then allegedly grabbed from behind by the boy, who began assaulting her.
It is alleged that the boy choked her during the assault, which made her pass out for a short time.
When she regained consciousness and tried to escape, the boy allegedly hit her in the head, knocking her to the ground.
He allegedly continued assaulting her on the ground before stealing her phone and running away.
The woman got up and ran until she found another woman who called Triple Zero.
Paramedics and police arrived and the woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
Police soon found the boy, who was alleged to have attacked the woman.
He was arrested and charged with committing an act of indecency without consent, assault, choking and robbery.
The police spokesperson said he was taken for a mental health assessment and faced the ACT Childrens Court on Wednesday (28 May) where he was remanded in custody until June.
