Brutal mugging in Glebe Park

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in Glebe Park last night (Wednesday, 2 March).

Around 10pm, three males aged 56, 31, 22 and a female aged 29 were walking home through Glebe Park when they were approached by four males and a female requesting a cigarette.

One of the male victims gave a cigarette to a male offender who then requested money. When the victims refused, the offenders attacked them.

Two of the victims were struck over the head with bottles, while the other victims were kicked and punched. The offenders stole the victims’ wallets, phones and bags, then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

The female offender was described as being Caucasian, of average height with a skinny build and blonde hair. All male offenders were described as Caucasian; one tall in height with short hair, and another in his late teens or early twenties wearing shorts and a grey “hoodie”. No descriptions could be provided for the other two male offenders.

Police investigations are ongoing and further information will be provided as it becomes available. Three of the victims received treatments in hospital and were released a short time later.

Witnesses who were in the Glebe Park area at that time of the incident and may have seen the offenders, or persons matching these description, are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. And the acceptable terms are ‘bogan loser’, ‘druggo criminal’ or ‘white trash’.

The kids in mostly black? They’re harmless to anyone outside they’re own group and even then, they’re still pretty harmless.

Something i’d also like to point out is that the amount of serious crimes commited in Glebe has harshly dropped since they started massing there, sure, petty stuff like drinking in public or the occasional bong smoking may have gone up, but which would you really prefer? passive drunks, or asian students getting mugged on a regular basis and worse (i say this from personal experience of what ive seen there).

Then again, if you were refering to people other than them hanging around the park, then yes, you are entirely correct to call them druggos and generally be wary of them and you have my apologies if ive ranted about something off topic =]

+1 for that idea.

Guns are good, but I’d put my money on a black belt any day of the week. Besides the average mugger can easily get hold of a gun themselves thus you are again on even footing. But there are few muggers out there with the discipline or the dedication to become good at a martial art.

I’ve walked through Glebe Park many times at night and have always felt safe, that isn’t going to change because of a random incident by dickheads. Dickheads can have a go at you anywhere, they don’t only frequent the city parks.

Is that the “right to bear arms”?

Yeah, being mugged with a gun instead of a bottle could’ve ended much worse.

We do have the ability to bear arms, it just isn’t a right….and we can’t go around places like Glebe Park packing heat….but if we (we being law-abiding citizens that are vetted and generally honest and upright citizens) were able to carry firearms, we’d be 5 thugs less about now and someone, like me, would have 5 more notches on his ivory handled .45!
