Candidate Questionaires for 12 October

As a long term Gungahlin resident, and someone that is passionate for the advancement of the local area, neither of these candidates are getting a preference from me.

What irks me about so called “local” candidates in general is that they tend to be like maggots feasting over a rotting piece of meat during the election campaign and once the election is over they can not be found until the next electoral cycle. What riles me even more are candidates such as these two who claim to have a tight local involvement and strong long term affiliation to the area and falsely attempt to capitalise on that tenuous link. Yes they have been out there campaigning and knocking on doors, but where were they for the last four years when we really needed community advocates to feed in to their respective parties?

@Primal:
There are candidates out there that are prepared to admit that Gungahlin is not on their electoral radar. I’d much rather have that level of honesty and integrity. You then have candidates such as Mike Hettinger (ALP) who has been vocal and active in various local communities for the last 4 years (he has been campaigning since the last election)… Though I don’t subscribe to Labor’s ideology he shows the sort of work ethic and attitude from candidate I’d preference higher on the ballot paper.

Maryhow, Eleanor Bates is nice, but as sharp as a bowling ball.

Yeah, ’cause you know about every single thing that happens in Gungahlin. The half-dozen genuine residents that turned up to your GCC forum are just a fraction of the thousands-strong spy network that you run from Nicholls to Harrison.

JR, while your cynicism is probably justified, would you prefer that a Molonglo candidate hailing from say Civic or Woden simply ignored Gungahlin altogether? Better to have someone else’s plan to offer your area than no plan at all.

I wouldn’t usually agree with you Jonathon but I think you are correct. Giulia with no “G” spot is from what I hear is an extreme part of the right wing of the liberal party. Like we need more right wing christian nut cases in Government like we need more drunk ministers. She didn’t turn up to the Womens Electoral Lobby breakfast because she didn’t want to be outed for her extreme views on Abortion and right to life. How come no one prints that. Not enough honesty in the media, thank heavens for Riot Act.

Eleanor Bates on the other hand isn’t a nut case, she is just a nice party hack thats had breast cancer. She has certainly run a more dignified campaign than Giulia who turns up to my shopping centre and takes over the crossing with what seems like 10 people so you can’t even get a trolley in or out of the shopping centre. All her material seems like it came stright out of head office. As if she is getting us a pool, or the extention to the GDE or Green Bins. There is nothing about her on her material about how long she has been here or what she has done for Canberra. Thats because she came her 5 minutes ago.

This is the guy who was driving along the Parkway while under the influence of alcohol after post Budget celebrations? I’d like to see how his constituents welfare concerns would have measured up if he’d mown one of them down while driving home.

Hargraves answer to question 2 was the best I’ve seen so far for that one:

2) Who would you least like to see elected, and why?

Burl Doble because he was a member of the One Nation Party, ran in the Federal Election of 2004, and whose views on multiculturalism I find abhorrent.

Never heard of ‘Burl’ (Burt?) Doble but it horrifies me to know he is running. Is he an independent or actually running for one nation?
