Cold Rock coming to Canberra

We had it pretty regularly when there was only 2 or 3 stores up in QLD back in the day and it was great. Had some again on the Gold Coast when I lived there about 2 years ago. If I recall correctly it was about $8.00 (starting with one add in) for a small cup. Tasty, but vastly overpriced

have any of you been to goodberry’s in the winter? its still pretty busy. i’m sure they make up for it in the summertime anyway, its constantly full.

having a cold rock and goodberrys at erindale should be interesting…

Given up on Goodberry’s.
Last two times it has been melted as soon as we received it. Hopefully cold rock will be better.

I’ll eat ice cream during the winter – when it comes out of a tub in the freezer at home, so I can enjoy it in my nicely gas heated lounge room.

I have a friend who ran a Wendy’s for some time and I can assure you selling ice cream is all about the weather.

On a cold day you can sell literally none and on a hot day you can’t keep up.

What sort of nincumpoop only eats ice cream when it’s cold outside? The temperature in my office is 22 degrees 12 months of the year. Bring the Cold Rock to Deakin!

Krispy Kreme failed because their national business plan was flawed. Will Coldrock work? Not if they follow Krispy Kreme’s plan.

Some years ago, I was at Goodberry’s (or was it Rubees) in Belconnen, and they had a sign up saying that the price of their frozen custard had to rise, by about 30%, due to the drought. Problem being that the drought had bugger-all influence on the price of their goods, and they were using it as a very poor excuse to drive up prices to a more profitable level.

I’ve never heard of these people. Are there any shops left at all that aren’t franchises? I’d much prefer a proper little gelateria a la French Riviera Cafe in Double Bay. I wonder if they can be persuaded to give up the high life in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and settle in cosmopolitan Gungahlin…maybe no?

There is a coldrock under development at Erindale as well, last time I went there I saw the signage.

Interesting about peoples take regarding eating ice-cream during winter. I remember reading a few years ago that Canberran’s are one of the highest consumers of ice cream in the country.

As an ice-cream aficionado it doesn’t bother me what the temperature is, I eat it for the taste.

There’s a Cold Rock opening in Erindale soon, too. It’s good, but from memory, way over-priced.

I think they all started as Goodberry’s then there were some defectors, buy-outs, sell-outs, shut downs and whatever and now there is only Rubee’s in Belco and Goodberry’s in Erindale. They taste very different, have different packaging, different prices and variation in the variety of toppings/fillings as well as other products they sell… even though both companies are very similar, they are worlds apart… and not just cause they are north and south side…

This will be a spectacular failure. Too seasonal, and as mentioned, that season is very short here in Canberra.

Ummm, wasn’t rubee’s and goodberrys all the same place til the goodberrys franchise went broke? Some stores changed name and others didn’t.

I quite like Cold Rock and often stop by their Newtown (Sydney) shop. Usually a kids-sized cup of choc gelato + lemon sorbet + mango sorbet. Haven’t tried any extra smashy-mixy-smashy action yet. Recommended!

Have you walked down Hibberson street in the winter, its a freezing wasteland, Good luck but I give them one winter.

It’s also vastly overpriced if its the same as QLD. About $15 for a medium tub from memory

Agree it’s in exactly the same catergory as Krispy Kreme and it will fail here. Don’t get me wrong – I like the product and have enjoyed it plenty of times in Sydney and Brisbane. But that’s because it’s a novelty when you don’t have it here – and it’s generally a lot warmer in those locations.

People will be lining up outside the door for the first couple of months and then…

Cold Rock is over-rated. I am always disappointed whenever I go with friends who are craving it in Sydney…

Cold Rock – hell yes. Kicks Goodberry’s (Rubee’s) arse – many flavours of ice cream to mix and smash happiness into.

I don’t understand the fuss about Cold Rock, in much the same way I don’t get the fascination with Krispy Kreme and Boost Juice. But hey, TBL I guess!

I think Goodberry’s rapid rise and equally spectacular fall is a good indication of the realities faced by ice cream franchises in a climate with 3 months of warm weather per year.
