ACT Policing Criminal Investigations officers seized two firearms, ammunition and a quantity of drugs after executing a search warrant at a house in Hughes yesterday evening (Friday, 15 November).
Around 7pm, police gained access to the house with the assistance of the AFP’s Specialist Response Group.
Due to safety concerns, police blocked a number of streets in the immediate area until entry to the house was gained.
During the search of the house, police located two firearms, ammunition and a quantity of illicit drugs. The firearms were rendered safe by officers from ACT Policing’s Firearms Registry before being seized.
A 27-year-old man who was located inside the house at the time of the warrant was arrested due to an outstanding arrest warrant in New South Wales.
The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and will face court on Monday, 18 November.
North District Superintendent Brett Kidner said this is another excellent example of ACT Policing’s commitment and ongoing work to remove illicit drugs and firearms from Canberra streets.
Police urge anyone with information on illicit firearms or drugs to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
