Managed to check out this last night. Very cool, despite the rain. Although I missed the Library so will check that next weekend (I presume they won’t be running during the week?).
I also liked the over officious plod moving people on from parking in front of Parliament House. I mean, it’s a festival about lighting up buildings, it was raining, so obviously anyone parking in front of the building for a gander was a security threat to the place. FFS! Plods have a job to do, yes, but clearly lacking any sense of judgement or flexibility in this instance.
Meanwhile, scarcely a security presence to be seen a few hundred metres away at OPH and the Gallery and the experience was all the better for it.
Oh, I would have thought this gig was perfectly set up for the Portrait Gallery too, with its seemingly purpose built architecture ideal for projecting images on to. Maybe they’ll pitch in next year if the idea gains traction.
Long time reader, first time poster.
Fully support the concept of the Enlighten Festival. However, why choose next weekend (Skyfire weekend) as part of the festivities?
Many hundreds (if not thousands) of Skyfire enthusiasts will be forced to move to another venue as the Enlighten festival takes up the South side foreshore area.
Surely the Enlighten organisers could have chosen an alternative fortnight for their festival.
Personally, I like it.
However, doesn’t burning all these lights ‘because it looks good’ just make the ACT Government’s participation in Earth Hour seem like nothing more than populist crap?
