Local DJs and food trucks will set up shop in four hubs along Lake Burley Griffin for Canberrans to ring in the New Year.
Rond Terrace, Wendouree Drive, John Dunmore Lang Place (Commonwealth Place) and Ferry Gate (Regatta Place) will be the places to go from 6 pm to start the celebrations.
Visitors are invited to pack a picnic or grab a bite to eat from the local food trucks on site as they wait for the first of the two fireworks displays to launch from Central Basin at 9 pm.
Fireworks won’t be launched from Commonwealth Bridge this year due to construction works and there won’t be the usual hub at Barrine Drive (Regatta Point) either.
The midnight display will be accompanied by a firework soundtrack, provided live-to-air by Mix 106.3.
Travel on Canberra bus and light rail services will be free all day. Patrons just need to tap on and off as normal to register a zero-dollar fare.
Chief Minister Andrew Barr encouraged everyone to make the most of the “fantastic event”.
“New Year’s Eve by the lake is a much-loved Canberra tradition,” he said.
“This year’s celebrations will bring our community together with spectacular fireworks, great music and local food.”
