I found that calling anyone from Emergency Services after hours was pretty much impossible. When I lived in Kingston – we had a fire alarm that used to go off without alerting the fire brigade (false alarm) – and the only way to get them to turn it off at 11pm at night was by 000. Everything else went to voicemail.

If your unit was one of those which was sustaining water damage, who would you have called? Your mum (or my mum perhaps)…?

Yeah but the potential to cause a loss of life is there. I’m sure they wouldn’t have responded if they didn’t think they needed to.

It also says “ACT Fire & Rescue crews are isolating utilities including power and gas and making the area safe whilst maintenance crews rectify the issue.” which suggests the potential was there.
