Yes, that’s it mate, I remember now it was an empty house that he was renovating or selling or something. It was definately a .303 because I remember seeing the footage of the cops taking it from the house. He killed both intruders from memory.

Who said anything about losing your own life? That’s not how these things work mate, the idea is to kill the other blokes, easy enough if you are prepared and have a pair. These scumbags expect no resistance, so put up a fight, any fight, and btw, if everyone subscribed to the ‘personal property isn’t worth my life’ theory then crooks would be running rampant.

As for evening or day time burglaries, there are preventative measures to keep yourselves safer in the home of a night.

Set off your car alarm and leave it on during the invasion and it’s best to keep your carkeys handy by your bed or table for that reason.

Set off your home alarm and leave it on, as the noise for one, will drive out the burglars – on a remote left near your bed or table.

Keep your mobile either on you or when investigating noise around your home, dial 000 and leave the call running for it to be recorded by the operator. Alternatively record the assailant’s conversations on your mobile quickly.

Get a dog if possible, few people, armed or not, wish to carry through a burglary with a dog barking or attacking them. Many homes around tuggeranong that are burgled or broken into of an evening with residents home, have been found not to have dogs or neighbouring dogs alerting them in the first instance, that someone is around the home.

Keep your television down of a night so you’re aware of anyone approaching your front door or home and identify a vehicle that is different to your neighbour’s vehicle or visitors later of a night. Remove hedges, large scrubby bushes and install garden lights and security lights at the front side and back of your home.

A known deterrent.

My dogs alert me when someone has crossed the threshold, whether I am awake or asleep. For older people, its always a good idea to set an alarm through winter and set it for the rooms you are not sleeping in ie for the entry way, lounge kitchen etc.

Working shift work and working from home involving odd hours, it is interesting that while people have their televisions blaring or homes built like fort knox, unaware of their surroundings, thieves are able to break a window in some of these large homes or manually open a garage door, with the occupants not being aware until its too late.

Cnbragirl I learned many years ago never to jog at night between 7-10pm after three blokes between their late twenties and early forties drove in off the highway in nsw plates stopping, opening their doors, to make a grab for me and my border collie on a dark, cold stormy night near a school at around 7.30pm.

I showed them my heavy magna light, lifted my mobile up to record them, while walking briskly towards homes across the road.

They did a ‘u turn’ driving back out on to the highway doing a hundred ks around the block to get out before being caught.

This was in a street with homes under lights and a busy thoroughfare street, although admittedly near parkland around a school [scrub and hedges are always a drawcard for rapists and thieves].

When I was growing up in Melbourne, I remember there was the story of an elderly gent who had had his house burgled, so the next night he lay in wait with his trusty .303 and ambushed the thieves, killed them both I think and after a lot of threats of jail time, he walked.

Any court that jails someone for topping these scumbags as they kick your door down would be sending the worst possible message to the community, i.e. you must lay down and submit to the home invader. Aint going to happen in this country, not while my arse points to the ground anyway.
