A 21-year-old Charnwood man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, November 19) for an aggravated robbery in Higgins last week.
About 10.30am last Monday (November 12), the man entered the Food Works at Higgins and threatened a staff member with a knife. He left the store with a sum of cash.
CCTV images from the aggravated robbery were released to the media, and information provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers identified the man as a possible offender.
The 21-year-old man attended the Woden Police Station yesterday (Sunday, November 18) and was interviewed and subsequently arrested by Criminal Investigation detectives.
Detective Superintendent Brett McCann said this arrest once again demonstrated the importance of reporting information to police through Crime Stoppers, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.
“This arrest was the result of police and the community working together, as an anonymous tip-off from a member of the public identified the offender. Your phone call or online report to Crime Stoppers could be the piece of information police need to make an arrest,” Detective Superintendent McCann said.
The man was taken to the ACT Watch House and was charged with one count of aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, where bail will be opposed by police.
