Horror day on ACT's roads with two deaths following two crashes

Two crashes on the same day have resulted in the deaths of two people.

At around 8 am on Tuesday (11 March), there was a crash between a bus and motorcycle at the intersection of the Barton Highway and Gold Creek Road in Nicholls, an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

Emergency services were called and the 22-year-old female motorcyclist was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

On Tuesday night there was a crash between a bicycle and a car on Northbourne Avenue.

A 70-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday (14 March), police announced the 22-year-old female motorcyclist had died earlier that morning.

This means two people have now died due to crashes on the ACT’s roads in 2025.

“ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the [Nicholls] collision and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” the police spokesperson said.

There were 11 road fatalities in the Territory in 2024, with the last recorded just days before Christmas.
