Not much, I’d reckon probably less than 1 gram over the years! Cos the gold is predominatly embedded in the quartz, you’ve basically got to find it close to the surface, finding it with a detector but deep down in quartz is hard work extracting it!
Found my biggest ‘nugget’ (tiny little thing, but I’m claiming it as a nugget!) in some tailings near where the Cowarra gold mine used to be. I’ve also found colour by panning near the Fiery Creek ruins, but you’ve got to take your own water with you! And again, as the gold out there isn’t alluvial, panning is often fruitless work.
Some excellent photos in that link!
I know the area and fire trails between Bredbo/Jerangle/Peak View/Numeralla like the back of my hand 🙂
We have actually called the place the photo was taken “Sunset”
We get these kinds of views all the time. The fog in the Monaro in the morning is also worth seeing. looks like a gigantic lake.
