Hullo all.
Just letting you know the site’s having some major surgery performed on it tonight.
So from the time this note appears we can’t promise your contributions will make it to the other side.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Wow what a change! Nice improvement, although a few things could change to make it an awesome improvement.
* Get rid of the yellow/mustard text – it’s hard to read on a grey gradient.
* The site is incredibly slow now, maybe less is more?
* The titles headlines should be in 1 colum. It’s hard to read the outline of the story in a 1/2/3/4 column structure.
* The like/dislike is distracting and pointless
* Whats with the logo reading Rio Tact? I think someone else mentioned the white space as well.
* The main photos at the top fade on too slowly (could be my connection)Overall it’s great to see something new.

I’m also getting a lot of “Error establishing a database connection” messages when I try to access any page on the site.

will also be increasing the size of the font in comments.
I actually think the font size is fine so long as the whitespacing and layout formatting was better, but reducing whitespace and removing the comment gradient would actually improve readability even if the font size were smaller (Ctrl+minus a few times, see the improvement).
Put the userid actions near userid references (ie: friend\block this user near the name\photo), comment functions alongside comments (Quote\Report near the top, where you always have comment data…).
Kill off the minimum size of a comment block, and you’d have a greater amount of usable real estate.
(A single line comment does not require a usage block of 85mm on a)
I come for content, not the joy of buttons designed for the visually impaired and usability issues of forever scrolling down through whitespace.
Also, the recent comments box needs greater thread&comment. 4 threads with 9 comments is way down on where it was.
PS: Internal sitesearch is fucked, as is your google indexing now that you’ve changed url formats.
Google will eventually improve if you request re-indexing, though.
…and where’s the ‘home’ buttom at the bottom of the garden? did the faeries do a heist??
(am i the first three post nutbag on v.4.0?? 😉 )
ok, hit ‘preview’ for the previous comment and the ‘semi-colon close parentheses’ looked just like two punctuation marks – then the ‘live’ version turns it into an emoticon. now, i will applaud it going into the spot where i put it [:)] but why doesn’t ‘preview’ do what it says on the box?

mobile version with stripped down options being worked on
Huzzah! I’d been meaning to ask about that on the old site.
By the gods, you site is tragically slow to load, let alone render.
And my poor smertphone now gets warm trying to view RiotACT.
Also, the fact that your’e now allowing private messages in addition to running at fat page sizes due to of flashy bits that ca’t be opted out of, are you prepared to accept being blacklisted by most departments?
IE: Not my complaint, but we as readers now need to be more wary of visiting the site if the IT guy is a dick, or if we dont want to show up on a list of bandwidth hogs…
wow, new stuff!
is this the season for revamping intre-webb sites?? about six of my regular viewing/news places have been ‘upgraded’ to greater or lesser degrees in the past week or two… still too soon to pass judgement on the riot…

Now, where are the TPS cover sheets…
Did you get the memo? We’re putting them on all reports now. I’ll forward it to you.
The new site looks pretty good to me. The font seems a little small though.
In terms of style, the gradient behind comments… Is there a way it can be disabled?
Also, why does Like\Dislike appear twice in close context to eachother?
Further, fewer large buttons that will rarely be used on the right, if you put user features and user actions next to user data, you have context. (Maybe use a sideout menu?)
PS: If your site is going to now be 800kb before it even thinks about rendering properly, can we have a less-enhanced version for those of us who periodically\frequently view on mobile devices?

Looks much better!
Less like a 90s HTML project and more like a respectable news site (snigger).
Hmm – not sure that I like the look, but editable comments are a nice improvement. 🙂
With the revamp, is there any chance of a mobile version ?(If it doesn’t already exist)
The previous site didn’t render very well on crackberries, especially the smaller non-curve like models.
Maybe it could be included as a feature for subscribers..
Text pagination looks funny on firefox.
Best of luck fixing it before all the public servants get to work and spill their lattes on the keyboard when they see the site changes
You’re almost as gorgeous as JB, Jazz.
– But nowhere as compelling as the sultry Fiona.
Good luck with the surgery.
yep, hope you all enjoy the changes.
btw, editable comments are only if you get in quick enough before someone replies 🙂
