Simon Corbell has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer of Legal Aid ACT:
“Before this appointment, Dr Boersig worked as an Assistant Secretary in the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, as a senior lecturer in law, and as an advocate with the Aboriginal Legal Service of NSW.”
The appointment comes just three months after Dr Boersig started as the Deputy CEO of Legal Aid ACT.
The Legal Aid Commission (ACT) is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1977.
It provides legal assistance in the ACT including legal information and advice, duty lawyer services, and grants of financial assistance.
“This service plays a critical part in ensuring Canberra is a safe and secure community, by helping those who cannot afford legal advice and representation,” Mr Corbell said.
“I congratulate Dr Boersig on his appointment as CEO and look forward to him leading Legal Aid ACT into the future.”
Dr Boersig replaces Mr Andrew Crockett who is retiring in November after seven years in the role.
It will be interesting to see if more heavy hitters from the public service can be lured into local roles.
