ACT Policing has arrested a 17-year-old boy from south Canberra after he fled from police in his car last night (Friday, February 22).
Around 5.35pm police were conducting a mobile patrol of Melrose Drive in Phillip when they saw the disqualified driver leaving the Shell service station in a silver Ford Falcon. The officers activated their car’s emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but it accelerated away.
The pursuit lasted 11 minutes through the streets of Torrens, Pearce and Chifley before the driver stopped at his home address. There were two other passengers in the car at the time of the pursuit.
The driver was arrested & conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he has been charged with three serious traffic-related offences. He received Watch House bail, and will face the ACT Childrens Court on March 8.
The offending vehicle reached dangerous speeds in suburban streets, which created potential danger to other road users, his passengers, the police involved and himself.
Any witnesses to the pursuit are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or online at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
