ACT Policing has arrested a 21-year-old Duffy man following a pursuit early this morning (Saturday, February 16).
Around 2:20am police observed a vehicle that was travelling at high speed along Dixon Drive, Duffy, turning left onto Warragamba Avenue, Duffy.
Police activated the emergency lights and siren, but the red Mitsubishi Magna sedan failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The vehicle travelled through several streets in Duffy at speeds up to 89km/h before crossing into Rivett where the vehicle mounted a kerb on Darwinia Terrace. The vehicle slid sideways down a steep underpass embankment where it came to rest.
The driver of the vehicle ran along a foot path and was apprehended by police adjacent to Toona Place, Rivett. A small amount of white clear crystals suspected to be Methamphetamine was located on the man.
Police took the driver into custody and conveyed him to the ACT Watch House. The red Mitsubishi Magna sedan was seized by police.
He was charged with one count of failing to stop, one of furious/ reckless/dangerous driving, one of driving while disqualified and one of possession of drug of dependence.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police identified seven passengers in the vehicle, one of whom was in the boot of the vehicle.
