More creativity lowering the road toll

A 65-year-old man has died at The Canberra Hospital following a collision in Hume earlier this month.

ACT Policing’s Collision, Investigation and Reconstruction Team are investigating the collision which occurred on Thursday, April 14, where a semi-trailer veered across both lanes of the Monaro Highway, and collided with a number of power poles and vehicles before coming to a stop.

The man passed away at The Canberra Hospital on Friday (April 22).

The post-mortem indicated the man suffered a medical condition prior to the collision, which is believed to have caused his death. As such, his death will not be counted towards the ACT’s road toll.

The road toll for the ACT remains at six for 2011.

JB, I think you are mixing up “cause of accident” with “cause of death” again.

If the bloke’s medical condition caused the accident and he died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident then it would be a road related death.

If his medical condition (eg heart attack, stroke etc) caused him to have the accident AND the cause of death was a medical condition rather than the collision itself, then it won’t be counted as a road related death.

It has always been this way and is the same everywhere. No conspiracy to lower the road toll here.
