Mr Toad's wild ride in a black Ford Territory

ACT Policing is seeking to identify witnesses to an incident during which a male driver of a black Ford Territory avoided a police Random Breath Test (RBT) station on Tharwa Drive, Conder on Friday, December 28.

Around 11.05pm, police were conducting a random breath testing operation on Tharwa Road, Conder when they directed the driver of a black Ford Territory to enter the RBT station.

After the driver twice ignored police directions and drove off, a search began for the vehicle. It was seen on a nearby street, where the vehicle switched off its headlights and drove on the wrong side of the road to evade police.

A short time later, the same Ford Territory was seen to enter another cul-de-sac in Conder.

When police approached and attempted to seal the roadway, the Ford Territory drove at the police car, prompting officers to reverse their vehicle to avoid a certain collision.
The driver of the black Ford Territory was wearing a white baseball cap, and the vehicle had NSW registration.

ACT Policing’s Sergeant Matt Lewis reminded motorists that failing to enter an RBT station at the direction of police has serious consequences.

“Failing to obey a specific police direction, as occurred in this case, is a significant traffic charge and once he is located, this driver will face this charge, as well as several others,” Sergeant Lewis said.
