Music Video - Casual Projects - Time

I like the new clip. I’ve only heard one of the Casual Projects tunes before (the one with the clip where they are all dirt farmers) and to my ear this new one had tighter chops and more inventive rhyming. Good on youse.

I wonder how long it will be befo they relocate to Melbourne?

I should add that, in my opinion, there are some pretty good bands going around. We gigged with Marji Curran and Adam Hole not long ago and they were awesome! And Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens are pretty cool as well.

On topic (well, your topic), Marhi and Adam are at Filthy’s ‘Musical Madness’ tomorrow (Tuesday 2 Dec) night, and I’ve not had the pleasure (despite hearing rave reviews).

There’s plenty of good jazz in Canberra – with the school of music jazz school pumping out stacks of top-grade jazz players, if you can’t find it, then you’ve got some major problems.

I saw Wayne Krantz play a few weeks ago, outstanding. I wanted to check out Chick Corea, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Schofield, etc. at the Opera House, but it’s too damn expensive.

Anyhoo. Yeah, I dug the clip. The music isn’t my cup of tea, but the spirit of the whole thing is great.

I went to the Aeon of Horus CD launch last night – great gig, the crowd wouldn’t let the band get off stage. Definitely one of the finer metal bands of the Berra.

I disagree Thumper… I think bands slog their guts out because they love to play, not because there is somewhere for them to do it.

Having somewhere to do it just makes it a little easy.

well at least your’e not saying its complete rubbish. fair to middling? nothing wrong with that assesment of canberra music. Two factors for this being acceptable are

1) the size of the place juxtaposed against other music hotspots around the country

2) I believe canberra’s average income is a little higher than elsewhere which indicates that we have less people doing it tough in terms of lower to middle class); therefore not as much inspiration/desperation to write music.

If you were saying it’s rubbish then i would suggest you look up the word subjective.

However all things said and done I think being average is completely adequate for canberra.

Maybe we live in a different Canberra! But your frantic, unfocused generic rambling bears no resemblance to the diverse bands that I watch several nights a week.

Hadley, you are correct in your description of the Canberra music scene as being ‘depressing’ and ‘generic’.

My main concern with Canberra artists is that they’re just…. mediocre.

Generally they’re not so bad that I want to hurl vomit at them, but neither do I want to part with $5 to hear them play.

Canberra is a littered with a hundred odd cookie cutter groups of all sorts that you wil find in every town. They’re just not interesting. It’s like Pervian pan pipe bands.

Now, I’m sure hordes of Canberra musicians are going to flock here to put me down and try to inform me about how vibrant the music scene is and blah blah blah……

Frankly, I’m not moved. Smoke some pcp, find some inspiration, and create something that will shut up this rabid old crow.

It makes me sad that Eyeball will not share the plethora of wonderful music it has collected, to help us drag ourselves out of the depressing and generic murk of the Canberra music scene!

I don’t know which ‘high profile’ Canberra band I find more nauseating – Casual Projects or Dahahoo.

I remember about 6 months ago, a friend of mine who works with the Casual Projects lads at the Department dragged me along to ANU to watch them perform. I’ve never been too big on hip-hop, but those guys blew me away (as did the very attractive female dancers they attracted to the show!).

Seriously, if you get a chance to see them live, do it. They don’t phone in the phunk. It’s hand delivered

Too much to be concentrated into a blog post and scrutinised by those who disagree with my assessment of Casual Projects.

However, I do collect a lot of music from the many remote assholes of the planet.

Well what do you like?

I love music.

That’s why I find The Casual Projects to be one of the worst musical acts I’ve had the displeasure of hearing. And that’s a pretty strong statement considering how horribly mediocre Canberra bands tend to be.

What music do you like Eyeball? Do you like music?
