A NSW man has been accused of repeatedly sexually and indecently assaulting a child in Canberra in the mid-1990s.
Toby Charles Mortlock, a 59-year-old from the Blue Mountains region outside Sydney, has been charged over the allegations.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said in 2021, police received a report regarding alleged assaults by a man against a child in 1994.
The child would have been aged under five at the time.
In December 2024, police travelled to the Blue Mountains to speak with Mr Mortlock.
He was later charged with seven counts of committing an act of indecency on a child under 10 and five counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10.
The case against him was first heard in the ACT Magistrates Court in April before it was committed to the ACT Supreme Court.
On Wednesday (16 July), the court heard he would face the higher court again for an arraignment, which is where he formally enters his pleas, on 2 September.
He is currently required to face court at that time.
Police believe that during the 1990s and early 2000s, Mr Mortlock participated in church groups at multiple locations across the ACT and worked at a high commission, as an after-school care worker and as a swimming instructor.
He is not alleged to have met the child through any of this work.
