Does anyone know or wish to guess what will be in the building where the old BBC/Bunnings was on Mort Street?
It had sat empty for so long, but now something is definitely happening. Maybe another car yard (unlikely) …

Well I was just saying what the tradie told me – I am by no means an oracle (see corkage thread)
Its 1st Choice not choice liquor i assume, Dan Murphys was looking at this location years ago. But I guess coles decided to go through with it after woolies decided against it (parking issues), They are also opening a 1st Choice at the Beclonnen Markets, this should help you find a parking space there on the weekends.
Thumper – I agree.
Walk down road – cross road – walk a little further cross road again – walk a little further cross road again – proceed to place of employment.
I took it upon myself to talk to a tradie on this site on the way home yesterday and it turns out the place is going to be a “Choice Liquor” outlet.
Seems it will come in very handy considering a gubment dept is setting up shop next door.
ASP – not saying that they 100% should use these methods to minimise the loss of fibers to teh atmosphere – but one would assume they would have some safety measures in place
Maybe they sealed in sections and made them negativepressure – because if its a building they are not going to cover the whole thing in a tent 🙂
Slightly off topic – there was a guy in the 60’s who mined asbestos for a living – and when he came home every day he gave his kid a hug.
The man grew old and died of natural causes – but his child grew up got asbestosis and died.
New residential units would surely sell at a higher price than office space? They could build Pod Units for Trendy Singles or something.
Gregorys are moving to Mitchell soon.
No they aren’t. Gregorys are building a new Parts Warehouse and new car storage in Mitchell.
Pit the fibre scratches a bit. Makes you cough. Cough a lot.
Ummm, negative preasure tent. Personal De-con unit. Are they meant to use these? Because I’ve seen three places in Narrabundah where they removed asbestos and they never used these. Hmm?
I’d heard that asbestos is actually good for you: it’s high in fibre and is trans-fat free.
Go over one street to Debarcle.
Its pretty good and has outdoor seating – good food and bulmers on tap.
Well I guess that stuffs my dreams of an actual cool pub + beer garden then. Stoopid offices.
One word, asbestos. That puppy wont be touched for a while
They have been working on it for about 4 months now…..And there was no asbestos removal – as the site never had any negative pressure tent or personel decontamination units installed.
Other Asbestos removal sites in canberra have had these facilities – including the old AIATSIS buildings across from bobby mcgees.
More offices hopefully. Anything that increases the price of Braddon property will be good.
I heard that car yards are all moving to Mitchell and yes – more offices are going into Mort Street.
matter-o-fact I know one little vegimite who will be moving into the office building next to the old BBC site.
So much construcction on that road now that if I was to abide by the Peds use the other path signs i would have to walk down a bit – cross teh road – walk down a bit more – cross teh road again then walk down a little bit more and cross teh road to get to my building…
Why cant they set up bollards and allow ped access that way – as they ahve done outside the old centre cinema ?
stadium would have been cheaper. View
