Pedestrian dies after being struck by light rail vehicle

A Ngunnawal man has died in hospital shortly after he was struck by a light rail vehicle on Saturday (27 September) night.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and the Barton Highway in Downer at about 7:15 pm.

They treated the 49-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He was declared deceased a short time later.

The man is the fourth person to die on ACT roads for 2025.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the incident, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam footage of the man walking in the area prior to 7:15 pm is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference number P2385236.
