One of our spies has sent in this intriguing roadside signage on Corin Dam road.
I’m sure it looked fine as an automated message.

Maybe it was done by the guy who sent out the emergency SMS about the Mitchell fire?

People there’s a market out there for automated signs with a built in spellchecker!!
Like Iphone’s spellchecker that will change debary to debate?
Possible debate on roads? 😀
Shouldn’t that be iPhone?
I tend to ignore marketing bastardisation of spelling 🙂

Reminds me of the one that was on Parkes Way during the Glenloch Interchange roadworks: “POLICE IN FORCE ROADWORKS SPEED LIMIT”.
Next time I saw it, IN FORCE had been changed to ENFORCE.
A built in spellchecker wouldn’t have helped that one.

For those who were never taught the whole-word method, the current concept taught in primary schools are “sight words”…
ACT Police have just advised on Twitter that “Tree fallen on Sutton Road and a single vehicle accident, 8km nth of Quialigo turnoff.”
These spelling and gramatical errors by authorities are just unbelievable.

*** I followed your lead and lowercased my “french” in honour of the Rainbow Warrior, whose engineer was murdered in a french government secret service terrorist attack. Bloody bastard french.
Maybe they can be forced to sit next to you during jury duty. Surely that will be punishment enough for their crimes.
The name of the town of Buttevant, County Cork, is believed to derive from the war cry of the De Barry family: “Boutez-en-Avant”, roughly translating as “Kick your way through”.
Now it all makes perfect sense.
Almost as classy as the canberra ave bridge signs they have, that warn you of the “clearence” when driving under… Almost…
And today the Department of Parliamentary Services has advertised for an “Ediotrial Support Officer” at http://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Employment/Department_of_Parliamentary_Services.
Public education clearly doesn’t work despite the signs you see all over Canberra that say it does.

My mind turned to Madame du Barry, last ‘official’ mistress of Louis XV. She outlasted the King but was executed during the Reign of Terror for no reason at all. Her last words before the guillotine were “One moment more, Mr. Executioner, I beg you!” Which no doubt amused lots of people.

Now what her ghost is is doing hanging around Corin Dam is a complete mystery. But the sign is trying to head off disaster. (Don’t you love long historical backgrounds to crappy jokes?)
I love you. I know you have mentioned a hubby in previous posts but will you marry me anyway?

Yes. Thanks for that historical tidbit.

The word debris is french and should actually have an acute accent over the e. Maybe they became puzzled as to how to attain an accent on an electronic message board and so settled on an Australian version.
I think it’s probably more correct to say that, the English word “debris” originated with the french word “débris”.

The nearby resadents will be appalled by this insadent, much like those near the Mitchell chemical fire last September.
What they’ve done is be somewhat clever. You could experience a delay due to debris on the road, but it wouldn’t fit on the sign, so they have combined both words 🙂
I think they meant Deborah. It is possible that Deborah is out on the roads.
