ACT Policing’s Collision, Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) are investigating two fatal collisions that occurred in Canberra’s south this morning (Saturday July 17).
Around 8.55am, police were called to the intersection of Canberra Avenue and Ipswich Street in Fyshwick, where a motorcycle travelling eastbound on Canberra Avenue had collided with a vehicle travelling southbound on Ipswich Street.
The rider of the motorcycle, a 35-year-old male from Kingston, died at the scene.
Police were later called to Erindale Drive, Wanniassa around 9.40am following a collision between a vehicle and a bus. Early investigations indicate the vehicle was travelling westbound along Erindale Drive when it collided head-on with a bus travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the vehicle, a 49-year-old male from Richardson, died at the scene. The driver of the bus was conveyed to Canberra Hospital with minor injuries. None of the five passengers on the bus were injured.
This brings the 2010 ACT road toll to seventeen.
Anyone who may have witnessed either of the two collisions and is yet to speak to police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
