Pursuit Wednesday

ACT Policing has arrested the drivers of two vehicles involved in separate pursuits today (Wednesday, December 22).

In the first pursuit, police were searching for a black Audi Q7 which was stolen overnight from a house in O’Connor. Officers located the Audi in Blackett Street, Downer around 11:14am in which time a pursuit commenced.

The driver of the Audi stopped the vehicle on Legge Street, Downer and was arrested.

The 13 year-old male driver has been charged with a number of traffic offences and will face court at a later date.

In a separate incident, police attempted to stop a red Ford Falcon on Athllon Drive, Greenway around 11:19am. The Ford Falcon failed to stop for police and a pursuit ensued, travelling along Athllon and Drakeford Drive and Boddington Crescent, Kambah before being terminated by police.

Other police in the area have located the vehicle on Kambah Pool Road and re-engaged the pursuit. The driver has stopped the vehicle at the end of Kambah Pool Road and fled on foot.

The 24-year-old male driver was apprehended after a foot pursuit and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with a number of traffic offences, including being an unlicenced driver and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

The male will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, 23 December 2010.

Police are urging anyone who observed either pursuits to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

When we go away we pack all our genuine valuables (eg musical instruments, jewellery, etc) into the boot of my car, which we then lock and alarm, inside our locked garage, and take the keys away with us.

During a normal evening, the car lives in the locked garage, but usually with windows down.

A lot of newer model cars are stolen during burglaries. How many of us put our car keys on the kitchen bench, table, hook on the wall etc – I know I do.

Yup, I do too. I make a point of putting them all away if I am going away for the weekend, but any random weeknight…

Luckily my car isn’t exactly a target for thieves. 🙁

I agree with “Screaming Banshee” and maybe the Parents or gaurdians should be hevaily fined, charged and put on parental probation!!!! I remeber when i was 13, If I stole a toy car then I would cop a flogging let alone stealing a real car……

Actually audi q7s are the hardest to steal in their class, Audis mostly are. I’d say this kid did have access to the main keys.

Another good job by the Police to catch these pain in the mother F*c*ing backsides who are forever causing our insurance premiums to rise! Not to mention the fact that these stupid car thieves are potential killers and they dont even know it. When will the law get tougher on these people? They will be back doing it again in no time…………….

yes good point. Though even for professionals stealing this car it is done with the owners keys, duress or trucked away.

It is not possible to start this car without the original keys. As the ECU provides the ‘immobilisation’ feature for this car it can not be bypassed by professionals in the same manner as with black wire/relay retrofit immobilisers.

Even if a replacement coded key is made by the manufacturer it still requires the car to visit a dealer to register the replacement key to the ECU using the factory diagnostic computer.
